The Teisia tis Madaris Trail is one of the most scenic hiking trails in Cyprus, located high in the Troodos Mountains at an altitude of around 1,600 metres. Known for its dramatic rock formations and breathtaking panoramic views, this circular trail offers a unique hiking experience through the protected Madari–Papoutsa Natura 2000 area.
Practical information:
Length: 3 km (circular)
Estimated duration: 1.5 hours
Difficulty: 2
Starting point: Near the Madari fire lookout station, at the ending point of the Selladi tou Karamanli and Doxa soi o Theos – Madari trails. The fire lookout station can also be reached by car from the Chandria – Polystypos road, heading towards the tip of Adelfoi mountain (approximately 3 km). The road is paved, except for the last 800 metres, which becomes a narrow dirt road.
Located within the Adelfoi Forest, the trail offers some of the most beautiful and wide-reaching views in Cyprus. Along the route, hikers can enjoy stunning views of the Troodos peaks, the Solia valley, the Mesaoria plain, and nearby villages such as Kannavia, Agia Eirini, Lagoudera, and Polystipos. On a clear day, you can also spot the Xyliatos Dam and parts of the scenic Pitsilia region.
The highlight of the trail is the impressive series of vertical rock formations known as Teisia, which resemble giant stone walls rising dramatically from the mountainside. These striking geological formations give the trail its name and make it one of the most unique hiking spots in Cyprus.
Perfect for nature lovers and hiking enthusiasts, the Teisia tis Madaris Trail in Troodos combines panoramic mountain views, rich biodiversity, and fascinating natural rock formations, making it one of the best trails to explore in the region.
