While exploring the Akamas area, I discovered the small Agios Minas Chapel near Neo Chorio. Hidden among the wild landscape of the peninsula, this little stone chapel feels like a place frozen in time. Away from the busy beaches and popular attractions, it offers a quiet moment to connect with the history and beauty of Akamas.
The chapel of Agios Minas dates back to the 16th century and is a simple one room vaulted church built from stone. Although small, it has a unique charm that makes it worth visiting.
Located around three kilometres west of Neo Chorio, the chapel stands in a quiet area surrounded by wild vegetation and the natural landscape of Akamas. It is the kind of place where you immediately notice the contrast between the simplicity of the building and the beauty of its surroundings.
The exterior is simple, with thick stone walls and a modest bell tower. There is nothing grand or decorative about it, but that is exactly what makes it special.
Inside the Chapel
The interior is simple and humble, with a wooden iconostasis and old religious paintings that have aged over time. The chapel has preserved its character through the centuries and remains a reminder of the religious heritage that exists throughout the Akamas region.
Unlike larger churches that often attract visitors for their architecture, Agios Minas feels more personal. It is a place that invites you to appreciate the small details.
Combining your visit with Akamas exploration
One of the best things about this area is that it can easily be combined with other nearby attractions, making it a perfect stop within a wider Akamas exploration day.
After visiting Agios Minas Chapel, you can continue towards the village of Neo Chorio, or head straight into nature with the Smigies picnic site or Smigies Nature Trail, which offers peaceful forest paths and beautiful coastal viewpoints.
This area also connects naturally with the Aphrodite & Adonis Loop Trail, one of the most scenic hiking routes in Akamas, passing through forest landscapes, viewpoints and historical sites.
For those exploring the coastline, the Baths of Aphrodite itself is also a great starting point for discovering the wider Akamas Peninsula, including dramatic sea cliffs, hidden trails and untouched nature.
This part of Cyprus is full of hidden corners, and Agios Minas is one of those small discoveries that fits perfectly into a day of exploring Akamas on foot or by car.
Agios Minas Chapel is quiet, authentic and surrounded by the incredible landscape of the peninsula. A small stop, but one that gives you a different view of Cyprus: one filled with history, tradition and untouched nature.
