Foini Village

Found on the mountain peaks of Troodos, Foini village is a picturesque and enchanting destination for nature lovers and culture enthusiasts. The village sits at an average altitude of 920 meters, surrounded by steep slopes and mountain peaks adorned with lush green pines, making it one of the most beautiful places in Cyprus.


Upon entering the village, visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of the valley of the Diarizos river from a viewpoint that acts as a sort of balcony. It is estimated that its name derives from a Frank feudal lord named Juan De Fenio or Finio, who had accompanied the King of Cyprus Peter I to Europe in 1359-1369.

Foini Village is home to several churches and chapels, including the churches of the Holy Cross and Agia Marina, the monastery of Agioi Anargyroi, and Agia Anna and Agios Georgios chapels.

The Community Council of Foini, in cooperation with the Association of Emigrants of the village and the Department of Cyprus Handicrafts, is undertaking a multifaceted effort to research, preserve and promote the art of pottery while encouraging young people to study the craft of the potter. The old elementary school in Foini has been preserved and turned into a cultural center, showcasing the village's rich history and culture. There are two pottery workshops, and a private museum of folkloric art operating in Foini, exhibiting various traditional pottery crafts, agricultural tools, and kitchen utensils, for which the village is well-known. The village is also an excellent destination for foodies, with several traditional taverns that offer opulent and tasty Cypriot cuisine.

For the more adventurous, the Foini - Holy Monastery of Trooditissa nature trail is a scenic route leading to the Holy Monastery of Trooditissa, at an altitude of 1,300 meters. Hikers will pass by the Hantara Waterfalls and throughout the trail they will come across rich vegetation that exists in the Troodos National Forest Park.

The medieval bridges found in Foini, including Piskopou Bridge, Elias Bridge, and Tzielefos Bridge, are impressive historical monuments that provide insight into the region's past.
